Wood Pellet Production

Then what are the processes of making wood pellets?

1. You must have sufficient wood sources. These could be wood chips, tree branches, sawdust, or even wastes from your crops. When raw materials collected, large size ones need to be pulverized by a hammer mill. After pulverized, the wood powder could be under 3mm, which is suitable for pelletization.
2. Before pelletizing, make sure the raw materials have 13-15% moisture content. Often they are too dry or too wet and not suitable for pelletization. So, for dry materials, add water into them and mix together. For wet materials, dry them with a dryer, or by natural wind.

3. Put the raw material evenly into the wood pellet press. And the pellets are formed by the high pressure generated by the rotating roller and die inside the pellet press. During this process, the friction between the roller and material can generate high heat, which can soften the lignin in the wood. And lignin is a good source of binder. So the pelleting process does not need any additives.

4. After pelletized, cool the pellets. Usually wood pellets can be cooled by natural wind. When the pellets reach room temperature, they can be used directly, or stored in sealed bags for later usage.
